Stories
Each dog who “crosses our path” is in a position of “last resort”. They come from extreme situations of abuse and neglect. Let us introduce you to some of the precious pups whose lives have been literally turned around:

Nallah and his twin partner had been dumped on a 4-lane highway in front of Wal Mart – yet no one "saw" them for months. The partner got hit by a car and killed and Nallah would not leave his side. Nallah was wild and ferral and could not be caught. For weeks, Cheri left food for Nallah, but Nallah was elusive and fast and would only come to eat when everyone was gone. Finally, with divine intervention, Cheri caught Nallah. He could hardly move for being one large matt of fur.
Here is a great picture of Nallah today, adopted to his forever home. The name Nallah comes from the orphan boy in the movie Australia.

Honey was rescued from complete abuse and abandonment. The "guardians" had moved away, and supposedly threw food into her kennel every so often. She was being eaten alive from the inside-out with intestinal worms and she had ring worm. She had absolutley no shelter. Her fur was so matted that her feces continued to attach to her matted fur near her rear, growing into an ever heaping mound of maggots, feces, and and matted fur. Her water was completely black/green and had squiggly worms growing in it. She was starving. The gate to her "pen" was welded shut. The only way to access her was to throw food over fencing. She was in solitary confinement in the far reaches of the farthest part of the back yard. Concerned neighbors heard her pleas for help, her barks and howls. Upon rescue, Honey had no manners, did not know how to walk on a leash. She could not smile, she could not give any eye contact. Today, Honey is everybody's love, is perfectly behaved, gets along with almost all other dogs and is waiting for her forever home meanwhile at the Healing Species Sanctuary! Below is a picture of Honey after a week of rescue, baths, a clip-down groom, but you can see the light is out of her eyes and she could not smile. Compare to Honey today!

Daniel was first seen roaming the streets of a busy 6 lane highway in Orangeburg. He was limping, starving- a skeleton- and covered in both "red," or demadectic mange, and sarcoptic mange- contagious to humans. Everyone yelled at him and shooed him away, but he didn't know why. He was cold, hungry, tired, and had no warm place to find quiet without being screamed at to leave. He was unwelcome and unwanted. Healing Species Cheri Thompson spotted Daniel and tried to catch him for weeks to no avail, until she teamed up with a neighborhood partner in that area- and they struck a "reward" deal if this man could catch Daniel. Upon capture, Daniel did not know how to act. He lunged, snarled, growled, snapped, and attacked his leash and leash handlers, but through will power and the grace of God, Daniel made it into Cheri's car- where he settled down and accepted gentle pats with gloved hands. The red tint you see is blood from oozing raw skin from the mange. Daniel (right) upon first "leashing" capture.
Daniel (left) riding in Cheri's car to Emergency Vet- because of course he was captured at night time when all vets closed!
Daniel today (right)!! He is the perfect dog! Daniel resembles Gravey, but is a different dog, individual, and soul altogether.
