- 2011 David W. Robinson Catalyst Award Winner recognizing Healing Species' for their leadership, creativity, vision and commitment to the community
- Cheri Brown Thompson receives BEST OF PHILANTHROPY AWARD honoring community champions - ordinary people in our community who are making a significant contributions through their life's work - from the Central Carolina Community Foundation in Columbia Metropolitan magazine, September 2011
- South Carolina Secretary of State “Angel Award” for non-profit organizations who utilize the highest percentage of their funds for program efforts and the least for administration costs, 2007. Recipients can only win one time.
- 2010 South Carolina Department of Education approved the Healing Species Program as a “Propitious New Model Program” for at-risk students, meaning it’s an effective and favored program to help struggling schools and students. Federal dollars can be used to implement the program.
- Meets all SC Dept. of Education State Standards for Health and Safety and Character Education, plus additional standards in English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Visual Arts
- Healing Species’ outstanding outcomes were published in the Journal of Youth Violence and Juvenile Justice - January 2008
- Received the "Community of Character" Compassion award in Orangeburg, SC in 2003
- Founder was nominated for the Volvo for Life Award two years in a row, making it to the top five each time, 2006-2007
- Healing Species was titled “Best of the Best” by the South Carolina Department of Education in the arena of Character Education
- Healing Species was one of only three organizations selected to represent Orangeburg County, leading them to win the “National All-American City Award”
- Healing Species Founder, Cheri Brown Thompson, won the 2007 national Traditional Home Magazine “Classic Woman Award” for women who make a difference
- Healing Species was named by the SC Department of Education as “The Best of the Best” for intervention programming for schools, 2000

- “Volunteer of the Year” award was also presented to Healing Species Founder Cheri Brown Thompson from the local School District Orangeburg Five, awarded by District Superintendent Melvin Smoak, 2008
- Healing Species was given the 2005 Lexington School District “Partners for Prevention” Award by the Department of Mental Health for the “You Make a Difference” Award.
- Healing Species was recently written up in an article by Ted Brewer as a “Healing Hearts” winner, in a 2007 Best Friends News Journal published by “Best Friends Animal Sanctuary” out of Utah.
- Received a “City of Orangeburg; Rotary Club” appreciation award, “brick of the town square” award. 2007.
